Wednesday, February 24

Health 8: Continued 6.3 Can suffering be meaningful? You'll finish it on Friday and start the HIV section.

ELA 20: Finished reading and discussing "Scars" in groups and started writing an anecdote about a scar. You'll present your anecdote orally on Friday, March 4th. On Thursday and Friday you will start working on the non-fiction study of I Am Hutterite. The Prologue and Chapter 1 (reading and questions) are due on Tuesday.

CE 10: Corrected "The Story of Joseph, Son of Jacob". Continued working on "Exodus". On Friday you will finish "Exodus" and then do a group skit/creative presentation on one of the five Patriarchs.  On Tuesday you will have some time to finish preparing and then you will present.

ELA B10: Homework checked and discussed "So What Are You, Anyway?". Started an Ethics activity called the "Heinz Dilemma" - we'll continue it on Tuesday. Also handed back the paragraphs on "The Blind Men and the Elephant".  For tomorrow's class you will type out your final draft of the paragraph and hand it all in, and then the rest of the period and Friday's class are work time for The Hunger Games novel study and Fictionalized Journal assignment. On Tuesday we will continue with the Ethics activities.

History 30/ELA A30: Current Event. The Book of Negroes - discussed Section 3. Tomorrow you will watch the Mini-series episode. Friday: For ELA you will read a poem and do a worksheet (due Tuesday), and then have time to work on Section 4 of The Book of Negroes (due Wednesday, March 2nd). For History, you will watch a video about The Battle of the Plains of Abraham and then continue with the PowerPoint on colonization.

History 30/ELA A30: Continued with the Colonization PowerPoint. Tomorrow will be the discussion for Section 3 of The Book of Negroes.

Drama 20: Worked on Resonance in our Speech Unit - watched a few videos and did the exercises, and then the activity was "In the News Today" (improvising a newscast).

ELA 20: "Shaving" - Homework checked and discussed questions. Handed back Memories Images assignment. Started reading the essay "Scars" in small groups and discussed the anecdote assignment. We'll continue tomorrow.

ELA B10: Handed back the Punctuation Quiz and discussed. Finished the rough draft of the paragraph on "The Blind Men and the Elephant" and handed in. Read the short story "So What Are You, Anyway?" individually and answered questions. We'll discuss tomorrow.

Monday, February 22

Health 8: Handed back the "Gift of Fertility/How Far to Go" booklet - those who did not hand it in before the break need to do so ASAP. Started Unit 5: Sexually Transmitted Infections with the C.E. portion of the unit - "6.3 Can suffering be meaningful?" We will continue next class - make sure to bring your Bible and CE text.

ELA 20: Handed in Childhood Memories poem and Memories Images Activity - those who did not need to do so by Wednesday. Read the short story "Shaving" and worked on the questions - we will discuss tomorrow.

CE 10: Continued working on The Patriarchs - Joseph assignment. Please have it done for Wednesday. Those who finished started working on the Exodus (Moses) assignment. You'll get more time next class.

ELA B10: Punctuation Quiz. Worked on finishing the rough copy of the paragraph for "The Blind Men and the Elephant". Those who didn't finish will have time tomorrow.

History 30/ELA A30: Started looking at how colonization occurred in Canada (PowerPoint - wrote notes) - we'll continue tomorrow. Remember that Section 3 of The Book of Negroes is due on Wednesday.

History 30/ELA A30: Discussed the handout on the Iroquois Confederacy.  Finished writing the notes on forms of acculturation and discussed, then looked at the examples with the "Profound Consequences" handout. Then we moved on to The Book of Negroes: discussed Section 2 and watched the mini-series episode. Section 3 is due Wednesday, February 24th.

Drama 20: Worked on posture and breath control exercises, then did the "Connect the Dots" storytelling activity.

ELA 20: Did the Memories Images viewing activity and handed in.

ELA B10: Corrected the Punctuation booklet. There will be a quiz after the break.

Health 8: Discussed the pamphlet "How Far to Go", then handed that and "The Gift of Fertility" in. Watched a couple of sections of Theology of the Body for Teens to conclude our unit on Sexuality and Sexual Health.  After the break we will be looking at STIs.

ELA 20: Explained the Memories Images activity. Last work period for the Childhood Memories poems - they are due after the break. Tomorrow you will do the Images activity.

CE 10: Corrected "The Patriarch Jacob" and then watched (part of) a VeggieTales video on Joseph.

ELA B10: Continued working on the Punctuation booklet. We will correct it together tomorrow.

History 30/ELA A30: Current Event. Reviewed "Forces Promoting Colonization". Discussed the idea of a constitution and read the handout "The Iroquois Confederacy and the Great Law", then started copying the notes for acculturation. We'll finish off tomorrow before we discuss Section 2 of The Book of Negroes. We also changed the due date for Section 3 to Wednesday, February 24th (instead of Thursday).

History 30/ELA A30: We missed our first period due to the Ash Wednesday Mass. Current Event. Handed in the Fur Trade WebQuest assignment. Read the poem "Between Two Furious Oceans" and discussed. Read through the handout on "Forces Promoting Colonization" and discussed. Gave the definition for "constitution" - we'll discuss tomorrow. Remember that Section 2 of The Book of Negroes is due on Friday.

Drama 20: Reviewed what we learned last class about posture. Tried walking with different types of postures (marionette, character). Played the "Sit, Lie, Stand" improv game to practice posture. Started looking at Breath Control with some breathing exercises.

ELA 20: Continued working on your childhood memories poems. Tomorrow will be your last class to finish it.

ELA B10: Introduced The Hunger Games novel study.  You are reading the novel independently at your own pace - it must be read (completely) by the time we get back from Easter break - Monday, April 4th. We also discussed the Fictionalized Journal assignment that you will do as you read the novel - it will be due soon after April 4th (we will decide on a date later). We will do other activities with the novel as well in April. The rest of the period was either reading time or work time for the punctuation booklet. Tomorrow we will continue with the punctuation booklet.

Health 8: Finished discussing the birth control section of "The Gift of Fertility". Worked on reading the "How Far to Go" pamphlet and answer the questions. We'll discuss next class.

ELA 20: Homework checked and discussed the questions for the poem "Childhood Memories".  Started writing a poem about childhood memories. We'll continue tomorrow.

CE 10: Continued working on "The Patriarch Jacob". Most finished and started working on "The Story of Joseph, Son of Jacob".

History 30/ELA A30: Did a caption-writing activity with images of Canadian landscapes. Reminders: Tomorrow we will be correcting the Fur Trade WebQuest, and Friday is the due date for Section 2 of The Book of Negroes.

Drama 20: Handed in "Looking at a Play" assignment. Discuss the Self and Teacher Evaluation process for class engagement and participation. Started a unit on Speech. Brainstormed skills/qualities for good speaking skills, then listed the ones we will be exploring: Posture, Breath control, Resonance, Articulation, and Projection. Began a journal entry about which of the five you are your strongest and weakest. Started looking at Posture with some videos and exercises. We'll continue next class.

ELA 20: We set up your duotangs and Literature Anthology pages. Read the poem "Childhood Memories" and discussed. Please have the During and After Reading questions done for tomorrow - we will discuss them and then you'll start writing your own poem about childhood memories.

ELA B10: Continued working on the paragraph for "The Blind Men and the Elephant". Tomorrow your rough copy needs to be finished by the end of the period so that you can start working on the punctuation booklet.

Health 8: Handed back Sexuality booklets. Worked on "The Gift of Fertility" booklet and discussed most of it - we'll finish next class.

ELA 20: Set up Writing Notebooks for Bell Work - we'll start on Tuesday. Handed back Surveys and "A Letter to Myself" and put in Literacy Portfolios. Finished the Unit I Guiding Questions discussion.

CE 10: Finished "Patriarchs of the Old Testament" and corrected together. Worked on "The Patriarch Jacob". We'll continue next class.

ELA B10: Homework checked and discussed the After Reading questions for "The Blind Men and the Elephant". Started working on the paragraph assignment - we'll continue next class.

History 30/ELA A30: Last work period for the Fur Trade assignment. It is due on Tuesday, but Monday we will be moving on. Remember that Section 2 of The Book of Negroes is due next Friday.

History 30/ELA A30: Current Event. The Book of Negroes: Section 1 - finished small-group discussions and had a class discussion. Watched the first Mini-series episode. Section 2 is due next Friday, February 12th. The rest of the class was work time for either the novel or the assignment on the Fur Trade. Tomorrow will be another work period for the Fur Trade and then we will decide on a due date.

Drama 20: Work period for the "Looking at a Play" assignment. Due on Monday.

ELA 20: Started working on Guiding Questions discussion for Unit I. We'll finish tomorrow. Please remember to bring your Writing Notebook for tomorrow.

ELA B10: Read the poem "The Blind Men and the Elephant" together. Please make sure the After Reading questions are finished for tomorrow.

ELA 20: Worked on the "A Letter to Myself" assignment and handed in (with Mr. Jalbert as I was away at the play).

CE 10: Handed back the notes assignment from The Bible's Buried Secrets. Continued working on "Patriarchs of the Old Testament". We'll finish next class and correct together.

Health 8: Handed back Action Plans and "The Media" booklets. Finished discussing "The Human Body" booklet, then handed in everything from the Sexuality unit so far. Started working on "The Gift of Fertility" booklet - we'll continue next class.

ELA B10: No class due to the Rivier Day mass.

History 30/ELA A30: No class today since we were watching Alice in Wonderland. Remember Section 1 of The Book of Negroes is due tomorrow!

Drama 20: Started working on the "Looking at a Play" assignment on Alice in Wonderland. You'll get one more work class on Thursday.

ELA 20: Did the Writing Types Post-It Activity and filled out the Student Survey. Tomorrow you'll be writing a letter to yourself (Mr. Jalbert will be with you since I will be at the play).

Monday, February 1

Health 8: Finished discussing sexual attraction. Started going through the booklet on The Human Body - we will continue next class (Wednesday). Remember that you have ELA with Mrs Ikert Period 1 and Health with me Period 4 on Wednesday.

ELA 20: Intro stuff (Icebreaker, Rules and expectations, tour of classroom, etc.). Course Outline. Started discussing Mad Libs. We'll do one tomorrow! Also, please remember to bring a Writing Notebook by Friday.

CE 10: Discussed the documentary The Bible's Buried Secrets and handed in notes. Started Unit Three: Jesus' Story. The first section is on The Patriarchs, starting with Abraham. Working in pairs, you were reading the information on Abraham and answering the question booklet. You'll continue on Wednesday. I may be late getting to class after the play is over, so please start even if I am not there.

ELA B10: Course Outline. Started discussing Unit I Guiding Questions. We'll continue tomorrow.

History 30/ELA A30: Current Events this week will be Wednesday & Thursday. Remember that Section 1 of The Book of Negroes is due on Wednesday. Continued the WebQuest on the Fur Trade. You'll get maximum two more classes later in the week. Tomorrow we miss our two classes to watch Alice in Wonderland.
