Monday, November 30

ELA B30: We missed most of the first period for Assembly. A couple of groups presented their Global Social Issues Project. The rest of the time was work time for your In-Class Essay on Friday.

ELA 9: Continued working on revising your Creation stories paragraph in the computer lab. It is now for homework to be handed in by Thursday.

ELA A10: Handed back your Unsolved Mysteries Project evaluation - great work! Started Unit II - The Challenges of Life by looking at the Guiding Questions. We'll finish discussing tomorrow.

CE 8: Handed in Unit 1 Collage. Watched a video and discussed Reconciliation in preparation for the celebration on Wednesday.  Continued working on the Advent booklet - you'll have tomorrow to finish it and we will correct on Wednesday, so take it home if one more class won't be enough time.

CE 10: Continued working on the Bible Searches booklet. Please have all of the activities EXCEPT for the last 2 completed for Tuesday.

ELA A10: The last group presented their Unsolved Mysteries Project. Had a wrap-up discussion of the Unit I Guiding Questions. The rest of the period was work time for your Independent Novel Study - remember that you need to show me one activity by next Friday. On Monday we will be starting the second unit, "The Challenges of Life".

CE 8: Started working on Advent activities (video, booklet) which we will continue on Monday. Remember that your Unit 1 Collage is due on Monday.

ELA B30: A Thousand Splendid Suns - discussed Chapters 41-45; please finish the novel for Tuesday. In-class essay date is still looking like next Friday, and the final exam dates (you'll write it over two days) are tentatively December 10th and 11th (Thursday-Friday). The rest of the class was work time for either your Global Social Issues Project or your novel/essay. On Monday we will start presenting your projects.

ELA 9: We worked in the computer lab revising your Creation stories paragraphs - we will finish on Monday.

ELA B30: Worked on the Glogs for your Global Social Issues Group Inquiry Project. Tomorrow we will discuss Chapters 41-45 of A Thousand Splendid Suns.

ELA 9: Started working on Trickster stories: Wrote some notes and read "The Blindfold Dance" together. Started preparing for a group activity on the other Trickster stories - chose group and stories. Tomorrow we'll discuss the activity and you'll start working.

ELA A10: Had another Unsolved Mysteries presentation and spent the rest of the period working on your Independent Novel Studies. Tomorrow we'll have the last presentation, have a quick look back at the Guiding Questions for Unit I, and then you'll have a little more time to work on your Novel Study. Monday we will be starting Unit II.

CE 8: Last work period for your Unit 1 Collage, which is now for homework and due on Monday. Tomorrow we will be starting some activities for Advent - please make sure to bring your Bibles.

CE 10: Continued working on Bible searches booklet. More time next class.

ELA A10: Started presenting Unsolved Mysteries Inquiry Projects. Tomorrow we will do the other presentations if they are ready and the rest of the period will be work time for your Independent Novel Study.

CE 8: Work period for your Unit 1 Collage. Since you worked so well (yay!), I will give you one more period tomorrow, and then it will be due on Monday. Friday we will start working on some Advent activities.

ELA B30: A Thousand Splendid Suns - discussed Chapter 35-40 and finished the one-on-one interviews. Read Chapters 41-45 for Friday. Work on your essay outline!

ELA 9: Finished watching Brother Bear, answered questions and handed in. Silent reading for the rest of the period.

ELA B30: Work period for Global Social Issues Project - most people were finishing up their research. I am hoping that Thursday you will create your Glogs and Monday you will present. A Thousand Splendid Suns - I completed most of the one-on-one interviews about the novel. Tomorrow Chapters 35-40 are due. Don't forget about your essays!

ELA 9: Handed in Creation stories comparison/contrast paragraphs. Continued watching Brother Bear and answering questions - we will finish tomorrow and the rest of the period will be silent reading.

ELA A10: Last work period for Unsolved Mysteries Project - tomorrow the groups that are ready will present and after that (as well as Thursday's class) will be work time for your Independent Novel Study.

CE 8: Handed back 1.4 assignments, and then it was a work period for your Unit 1 Collage. You will get one more period tomorrow.

CE 10: No class today due to the Presentation of Mary Mass at St. George's.

ELA A10: Work period for Unsolved Mysteries Project. Tomorrow is your last work period and you'll present on Wednesday. Heads up: Whatever time is left on Wednesday after the presentations as well as Thursday's class will be work time for your Independent Novel Study. Friday we will be wrapping up Unit I and starting Unit II.

CE 8: We will be working on CE for awhile, so no Health right now. Work period for the Unit 1 Collage. Tomorrow will be another work period, and possibly Wednesday depending on how well you use your time tomorrow.

ELA B30: A Thousand Splendid Suns - handed back Character Sketches, discussed Chapters 27-34. Chapters 35-40 for Wednesday. Get started working on your outline for your In-Class Essay - potential date for writing is Friday of next week, December 4th (TBD). Tomorrow you'll be working on your Global Social Issues project.

ELA 9: Started watching the film Brother Bear and filling out the question sheet - we'll continue tomorrow. Don't forget that your Creation Stories comparison/contrast paragraph is due tomorrow!

ELA B30: Work period for your Global Social Issues project (only one period since we left for the Holocaust presentation). Remember that Chapters 27-34 of A Thousand Splendid Suns is due for Monday, and start working on your essay outline.

ELA 9: No class today due to the Holocaust presentation. Remember that your Creation stories comparison/contrast paragraph is due on Tuesday (no more work time).

ELA A10: Work period for Unsolved Mysteries project in the computer lab. You will have two more work periods on Monday and Tuesday and you will present your projects on Wednesday.

CE 8: Finished all parts of 1.4 together and handed in. Watched a summary video on the Holy Spirit. Next week you will be working on the final project for this unit which will be a collage.

CE 10: Corrected the "Finding Your Way Around the Bible" assignment together. Discussed the "Where to Look in the Bible" and "Different Views: How the Bible Was Written" booklet. Worked on the Bible searches booklet, which you will continue next class.

Just a heads up - there will be a test at the end of this unit, likely part of it will be open book and part of it will not. Also, I am planning on having you do a small research assignment on one of the people in the Bible searches booklet after you finish it, so think about who you might be interested in learning more about.

ELA A10: Finished the research process for your Unsolved Mysteries projects and some started working on their Glogs. You'll have 2-3 periods to create your Glog and prepare your presentation.

Health 8: Handed in research booklet on "Canadian History and Legislation on the Family". Wrote final test on Unit 2: Healthy Family Relationships. Next week we will start a new unit!

ELA B30: A Thousand Splendid Suns - Submitted Character Sketches, discussed Chapters 22-26, handed out and discussed the outline booklet for your in-class essay. Please read Chapters 27-34 for Monday and start planning out your essay.

ELA 9: Last work period for your creation stories comparison/contrast paragraph. You have until Tuesday to hand it in, but you won't be getting any more class time.

ELA 9: Creation stories comparison/contrast paragraphs: Homework checked your outlines and you worked on your rough drafts. Those who finished their rough drafts edited with me. Tomorrow is your last class to finish your rough draft, edit with me, and type your final draft.

ELA A10: Work period for your Unsolved Mysteries Project. You should be finished your research by the end of class tomorrow.

CE 8: Worked on 1.4 Info and Application. Please have the Info section (Activities 18 and 19) done for Friday. Also a reminder that your Health Test is tomorrow!

CE 10: Continued working on the "Finding Your Way Around the Bible" assignment. Please have it completed to correct in class on Thursday. You'll work on the Bible searches booklet after that.

ELA A10: Worked on Unsolved Mysteries inquiry project.

Health 8: Review Jeopardy for the Healthy Family Relationships Test, which is on Thursday. Please make sure to bring your "History and Legislation on the Family" research assignment to hand in at the beginning of class, and also a book to read or other homework to do after you finish your test.

ELA B30: A Thousand Splendid Suns - discussed Chapters 16-21. Read Chapter 22 together. Please read Chapters 23-26 (to the end of Part 2) for Thursday, and also finish the Character Sketch assignment for Thursday. And don't forget about your In-Class Essay! Tomorrow you'll be working on your Global Social Issues project.

ELA 9: Continued working on the comparison/contrast paragraph. Please have your topic sentence and an outline of your paragraph ready for class tomorrow.

ELA B30: Started the "Global Social Issues Group Inquiry Research Project" - explained the project, chose groups and topics. We also did an activity about creating meaningful inquiry questions, and some groups created their inquiry focus questions. You'll start researching on Wednesday. For tomorrow, be sure that you have read Chapters 16-21 of A Thousand Splendid Suns.

ELA 9: Finish the practice comparison/contrast paragraph. Tomorrow you'll work on the final paragraph on two of the creation stories.

ELA A10: Did an activity about creating meaningful inquiry questions, and then worked on creating inquiry questions for your "Unsolved Mysteries" project. Tomorrow you'll start researching.

CE 8: Continued working on 1.4 Info section, including the extra sheets that I handed out. Discussed Activity 17 (3 pages). Next class you'll finish Activities 18 and 19.

CE 10: Read through and discussed the information booklet on the Bible together. Handed out the assignment that goes with it - you'll have work time next class.

ELA A10: Work period for Unsolved Mysteries Group Inquiry Multimedia Project.

Health 8: Discussed "Canadian History and Legislation on the Family" research. Also discussed the articles on Family Discrimination. This brings us to the end of the unit - on Tuesday we will do a review Jeopardy together and your test will be on Thursday.

ELA B30: Handed back the letters you wrote yesterday and discussed. A Thousand Splendid Suns: discussed the rest of Part 1 questions and looked at the themes sheet. Start thinking about choosing one of those topics for your in-class essay at the end of the novel study and write down ideas, quotations, etc. that relate to the topic - this will help you immensely when we get to the end. Please read Chapters 16-21 for Tuesday. Also, don't forget about your Character Sketches - I want that sheet handed in by the end of next week.

Welcome back! I hope you all had a nice extra-long weekend.

ELA B30: Did Page 2 of the Word Choice Booklet (Interesting Adjectives). Read and discussed the poem "The Cry of the Children", and then did a timed writing activity to write a letter to the government based on the letter (it was handed in at the end of class). Make sure that Part 1 of A Thousand Splendid Suns is done for tomorrow.

ELA 9: Started working on the practice booklet for Comparison/Contrast Paragraphs - please make sure that the questions (1-6) on the model paragraphs are ready to be discussed tomorrow.

ELA A10: Handed back and discussed "1800 College Avenue" and "Red Tail and the Windigo" assignments. Started working on Unsolved Mysteries Group Inquiry Multimedia Project - explained assignment, chose groups and topics. You'll start working on your Inquiry Questions and research tomorrow.

CE 8: Handed back 1.3 Experience/Info and Application/Action. Finished and discussed the 1.4 Experience section and started working on the Information section. Make sure to bring your Bibles for next class.

CE 10: Handed back Unit 1 Project Evaluations. Started Unit Two: Our Story. Started discussing the Bible and watched a short video. Spent the rest of the class reading for your ELA Independent Novel Study.

ELA A10: No class today due to the Remembrance Day service.

Health 8: Last work period in the computer lab for "Canadian History and Legislation on the Family" research. Those who did not finish need to do so for next class' discussion (next Friday). Those who finished started reading the articles on Family Discrimination - you will get more time to work on this.

ELA B30: A Thousand Splendid Suns - discussed Chapters 1-5 Questions. We read Chapters 6 and 7 (up to page 50) together. Please read to the end of Part 1 (page 104) for next Friday.

ELA 9: Discussed the graphic organizer for comparing the creation stories. Watched the videos about the Norse creation story and added to the graphic organizer. Next week you'll start working on a comparative paragraph of two of the stories.

ELA B30: Handed back Hamlet Verbal-Visual Essays and Literacy Portfolios - well done! Read the short story "The Heavenly Christmas Tree" and discussed. Started working on a Word Choice booklet. Make sure to have Chapters 1-5 of A Thousand Splendid Suns read for tomorrow.

ELA 9: Finished reading the creation stories and filling out the comparison graphic organizer. Tomorrow we will discuss the stories and watch the videos for the Norse Narrative.

ELA A10: Went to the library to speed date with novels for your Independent Novel Study. There were snacks. Mrs. C is the best, isn't she?

CE 8: Finished 1.3 on the Fruits of the Holy Spirit and handed in. Started working on 1.4 "How do I know I'm on the right track?", including the webs and the Human Knot activity.

ELA A10 (2 periods): Handed in "Red Tail and the Windigo" Story Board assignment. Read the ghost story "1800 College Avenue" aloud and answered listening questions. Read the poem "The Legend of Qu'Appelle Valley" and discussed rhyme scheme, literary devices, tone, and mood. Discussed Independent Novel Study - tomorrow we will go to the library to "speed date" and choose novels.

Health 8: Continued research in the lab on Canadian History and Legislation on the Family. You'll get one more period in the lab on Friday.

ELA B30: Finished reading the articles on Afghanistan and discussed. Discussed some assignments for A Thousand Splendid Suns: Questions, Character Sketches, Themes Page which will lead to an in-class Essay at the end of the novel. Read Chapter 1 together. Please read Chapters 2-5 for Friday.

ELA 9: No class today since you were gone to "Take Your Kid to Work Day". See you tomorrow to continue reading the creation stories!

ELA B30: Finished reviewing Unit I Guiding Questions - these would be good to hang onto for your Final Exam. Discussed Unit II Guiding Questions. Started reading a booklet about Afghanistan and filling out a graphic organizer as an intro to our novel study, A Thousand Splendid Suns.

ELA 9: Worked on creation stories - reading and filling out a graphic organizer. We'll continue on Thursday. Have fun at "Take Your Kid to Work Day" tomorrow!

ELA A10: Read a myth called "Red Tail and the Windigo" and did a StoryBoard sheet. Those who did not finish in class - please finish for tomorrow.

CE 10/ELA A10: We spent both periods presenting your CE projects. We will make up the missed ELA period on Wednesday.

Health 8: Handed back Family Roles and Responsibilities. Worked in the computer lab on Canadian History and Legislation on the Family. We will continue in the lab next class.

ELA B30: Handed in Literacy Portfolios and a few people presented their Hamlet Verbal-Visual Essays. Those who did not hand in/present have the next couple of days to do so in order to get the marks in for Progress Reports. Tomorrow we will begin our second unit.

ELA 9: Discussed familiar Bible stories and watched the video of "The Storytelling Stone". We will start working on creation stories tomorrow.
